IPPNW Calls for Ceasefire Between Russia and Georgia and Recommends World Court Submission

IPPNW Calls for Ceasefire Between Russia and Georgia and Recommends World Court Submission
The armed conflict between Russia and Georgia is extremely dangerous and needs to be brought to a halt immediately. The impact on innocent civilians is mounting and, if allowed to continue, could spiral out of control. Further, were this territorial dispute to draw in neighboring European countries and the United States, the conflict could escalate into a confrontation between the two largest nuclear-armed states. History teaches us that such a catastrophe is not only possible, but is likely if steps are not taken promptly to resolve this situation diplomatically.
IPPNW urges the Presidents of both Russia and Georgia to agree to an immediate ceasefire, to allow UN peacekeepers into the territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and to bring their grievances regarding these territories before the International Court of Justice for arbitration that will take the interests of all parties into account.

Queridos Amigos ahora estamos en la situación de publicar la declaración siguiente sobre el conflicto entre Rusia y Georgia que fue emitida por el Comité ejecutivo de IPPNW en el 11 de agosto de 2008:
IPPNW Llama para el alto el fuego entre Rusia y Georgia y Recomienda la sumisión del Tribunal Internacional de Justicia
El conflicto armado entre Rusia y Georgia es muy peligroso y debe ser detenido inmediatamente. El impacto en civiles inocentes está en escalada y, si continúa, podrá ponerse en espiral y fuera de control. Aún más, esta disputa territorial puede hacer ingresar en él a los países europeos vecinos y Estados Unidos y el conflicto podría agravarse en un enfrentamiento entre los dos estados más grandemente armados con armas nucleares. La historia nos enseña que tal catástrofe es no sólo posible, pero es probable si los pasos no son tomados para resolverse inmediatamente esta situación en forma diplomática.
IPPNW insta a los Presidentes de tanto Rusia como de Georgia a aceptar una tregua inmediata, para permitir que pacificadores de UN en los territorios de Ossetia del sur y Abjazia, y para llevar sus quejas con respecto a estos territorios ante el Tribunal Internacional de justicia para el arbitraje que tomará los intereses de todos partidos en la cuenta.
